What do you think will happen to your swimming pool while you are on vacation? Obviously, it will become dirty. Your swimming pool requires constant attention to keep it clean and clear. The filter has to be run every now and then. The chemicals should be checked. The pool water has to be cleared of any debris that happened to land on it when the wind is blowing.
Who will take care of all of these while you are away? It is not like you can be in two places at one time. Not only that, staying at home and skipping a much-needed vacation is out of the question. You need to take a break every now and then.
So what can you do?
Fortunately, there are things that you can do to make sure that your swimming is cared for while you are away.
Enlist the help of a friend
Start by asking a friend to help you out. You can even ask a neighbor – since they are conveniently close. You want to choose someone who also has a swimming pool. That way, they know what to do to make sure that your pool is cleaned while you are not home. There are a couple of things that they can do for you. They can check that the filtration system is working properly. Among the other things they can do includes emptying the skimmer basket or skimming the pool water’s surface. They can also check if the chemicals are still ideal. If not, ask them to set it right. That way, your pool will continue to be clean and clear of algae. While they are in your house, they can check the perimeter to see that everything is still safe and secure.
Get yourself a timer
Most of the new models of a pump have a timer. If yours do not have one, you might want to make an investment to buy a timer. This will help in maintaining your pool even while you are away on vacation. A timer will help you automate the pump and filter. You do not have to leave it running 24 hours a day until you return. You can set it to run every 12 hours – or 8 hours. It depends on what you think your swimming pool needs to stay clean and clear. What is great about a timer is you do not have to rely on someone else to do it for you. If you do not have a friend or neighbor available, or you simply do not want to burden them, then a timer is the answer to keeping your pool clean.
Make sure your pool is clear before you leave
Finally, you might want to make sure that your pool is completely taken cared of before you leave. Make sure it is clean and any automated systems you have in place is set up to run as soon as you go. Not only that, you should also check that the chemicals are at the right levels. Clean the pool thoroughly and cover it if you wish. That way, no debris will land on it while you are away.
All of these efforts might not be as important as keeping your house secure – but it pays to come home to a clean pool when you get back from your vacation. It will lessen the things you have to do when you arrive from your relaxing holiday.
